On the left side of the back end menu you will find the orange icon page. Click on it to start the creation and structure of your TYPO3 website.

Step by step

At this point you will begin to familiarize yourself with the configuration of your TYPO3 installation and learn how it may differ from other systems.

Overview of entries

  • By clicking on the page icon, the page tree of your website will be shown in a new menu bar on the left side.
  • On the left above the page tree you will find the page icon marked with a plus sign (+) to insert a new page type.
  • The page types landing page, content page, portfolio/overview page, product page, event page, blog post, folder, shortcut, and separator for menu will appear.
  • You can choose between the various preconfigured page types

Page type icons explained

  • Door/Entry = »Landing page«: Content page for superordinate structure
  • Black document = »Content Page«: regular content page
  • Tile grid = »Portfolio / Overview Page«: preconfigured overview page for your portfolio or products
  • Cube = »Product Page«: Content page for a detailed product presentation
  • Ticket = »Event Page«: Visualize event details
  • Newspaper = »Blog post«: Content page for news articles
  • Folder = »Folder«: Structure content pages and other menu objects
  • Document with arrow = »Shortcut«: Link pages to other internal or external pages
  • Separator = »Menu separator«: Structure content pages within your page tree

Navigation/page tree levels

  • In a basic toujou installation, you will find preconfigured landing pages (usually: Who, What, Why, Blog), which represent the first level of your page tree below the home page or front page.
  • This first level is displayed in the front end as the navigation menu. Each additional page added to this level below will appear to the right of the existing navigation points.
  • You are free to rename, delete, hide, and/or create new first-level pages in preconfigured toujou pages.
  • You can add more hierarchically parallel and subordinate sublevels to the first level.
  • Regardless of the number of sublevels, toujou displays no more than three levels by a mouseover.

Pieces of advice

toujou is based on TYPO3 and anyone familiar with TYPO3 knows that there are many different options to use to reach your desired results. We would like to point out important information and little tricks that can assist you when you’re creating and editing your website.

All successful websites are characterized by logical structures and an instinctive navigation that suits the needs of the business. When deciding on the editorial concept of your company’s website you should create accurate topics, sections, and/or categories. These editorial decisions will be crawled and interpreted by all the search engines. Accordingly, put additional effort towards the use of helpful and accurate keywords in your navigational pages.

The same rules apply to your service navigation: For example, what information do you think is better in the footer of your website? Mandatory requirements, such as legal note and privacy policy will work best on the footer of your website since the information will end up on every page.
